Hello.

Just wanna elaborate a lil on yesterdays post while im here.
Cyber gaming is a waste of time because, well if you think about it - Ur just sitting at ur computer and "passing time", while the world outside is moving on without you.

You can do so much more if you just go out there and do something... even sit down and meditating is better than gaming.

I recall this from an article i read sometime ago... like before chinese new year. this is my own comprehension of the article based on what i can remember, and on my own logical reasoning of the topic as well.

Why is cyber gaming addictive? This mainly applies to online gaming by the way. It's because most ONLINE gamers fine the impulse to stay ahead of the pack (the pack being the online gaming community). regardless of whatever game they might be playing. Let me just divide this pack into 2 simple and general groups, the good and the bad.

This can apply to any game (maplestory, counter-strike, world of warcraft etc.).
Now, the BAD players would find the impulse to play more as they wish to improve themselves to be among the GOOD players. Why? It's all a matter of natural instinct (think about animals, thats why its mainly males that play online games.). This player is better than me, i must be better. As for the GOOD players, they see the need to keep themselves ahead of the pack, and not faltering. They feel that "if i stop playing now, i might fall behind so-and-so.", and thereby resume playing.

These 2 groups, in fact, do share some similar qualities as well. All gamers, well at least like 95% percent of gamers, find that sense of reward or satisfaction when they achieve a certain level of expertise in a game. In the case of maplestory, it would be a level, and "staying ahead of the pack" would be simply referring to staying as the highest level in that game, or at least above the people that you know. In the case of games like counter-strike, which are mainly skill based, it would be the matter of skill level among the online community of gamers playing games of this genre.

However, achieving a career in "gaming" itself (not game developing, just gaming), is incredibly hard in modern society. You have to be the best of the best, and if you fail, you have to pursue something else. Thus, if someone has "devoted" his life to gaming, without proper qualifications in terms of education, he will find himself in a pit if he fails to achieve that career in gaming he was aiming for or dreaming of.

WOW if this topic comes out on O lvl english compo im gonna score big. Then again sometimes i get weird topics and still score 20+, not even knowing how.

Prelims compo - 21/30.
How? i don't know. I left the examination room feeling like i didn't write a good composition, but it always turns out good.

English teacher used to ask us to draw a "mindmap" before we start on our composition... i dont know if YOU do it, but i don't. I think its a waste of time, i still end up writing the compo like i would have without the mind map. I simply write, and see where it takes me. Boy, writing is fun.
